GBP 7792 Social Sport Coordinator

 

Job Summary

 

University of Exeter Sport has an opportunity for a new graduate to join their team and support with the physical activity and wellness strands of the sport strategy.  Your role will involve the development and delivery of a social sport programme for students and planning a calendar of social sport events throughout the academic year.  This is an opportunity to develop your project and event management skills working with a range of stakeholders.

 

This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) scheme and offers full-time hours (36.5 hours per week) for 12 months.  You will be based at the university’s sports park on Streatham Campus in Exeter.  Some evening work will be required to deliver planned activities.

Purpose of the Role

 

In this role, you will play a key part in achieving the key objectives in the physical activity and wellness strand of our new University of Exeter sport strategy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Encourage participation in healthy activity among the section of the staff and student population that is largely inactive. 
  • Develop and administer a social sport programme for students, following student consultation and linking in with the lower end of sporting activity within the AU clubs. This will include both weekly events and one-off events throughout the year.
  • Develop a comprehensive events calendar of social sport events throughout the academic year 
  • To work with other sports staff on the production of relevant promotional material for student and staff sport. 
  • Promoting social sport leagues and one-off events.
  • Organising all social sport teams into separate leagues and arranging fixtures 
  • Provide a comprehensive social sport team captains training programme and deliver training to all team captains. 
  • Ensure that all activity meets the requirements with regards to health and safety, including undertaking risk assessments and ensuring compliance with AU procedures for activities off campus. 
  • Ensuring all bookings are correct and the TLMS programme is up to the date with the correct equipment information. 
  • Communicating with the operations/grounds staff to ensure all equipment is set-up and organised for fixtures and events. 
  • Communicating with the operations/administration staff to ensure the correct registration process is followed and correct monies are taken. 
  • Use Playwaze an online payment and fixture system to enhance and streamline the social sport registration process. 
  • Monitoring the income and expenditure of the social sport against the allocated budget 
  • To keep a watching brief on funding opportunities that will enable the programme to develop as necessary. 
  • Create and maintain an Umpire database and ensure Umpire claims are correct and check against Umpire data base. 
  • Work with the communications assistant to ensure all information is on the university website and on all sport social media platforms. 
  • Play a lead role in attracting international students to engage in healthy activity and where possible, integrating international and home students in activity either in the social sport programme, club activity or one-off events. 
  • Be the lead contact in relationships with INTO Exeter, developing a relationship of mutual benefit. 
  • Conduct consultation work with students to gain meaningful insight into their attitudes and behaviours which will be used to improve the delivery of programmes.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other colleagues involved in student’s engagement. –
  • Contribute towards the broader work of the University, to continuously improve the student experience. 
  • Assist the University of Exeter sport team, to design and develop campaigns to increase awareness of the activities, services and sports facilities that are available.
  • To work collaboratively across all areas, to enhance and develop service delivery, as well as to support colleagues at peak times.

About You (Person Specification)

 

Degree and Attainment

 

  • Graduated with a degree in Sport, Physical Education, Leisure Management, or equivalent experience from any UK based university in the last 3 years.
  • International graduates with a Graduate Visa are welcome to apply.
  • Software qualifications including use of database, word processing, spreadsheets & PowerPoint.
  • NGB coaching awards.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate.

Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme Requirements

 

  • To undertake a graduate role through the GBP scheme, you must have either achieved your degree or be in your final year at any UK-based university
  • If you are in your final year, your working hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to ensure you have the capacity to successfully complete your degree.
