SCP 7687 International Peer Mentor Coordinator

Job Summary

The ISE team at the University have an opportunity for a student to support  The International Peer Mentorship, a non-academic mentoring scheme that matches new international students with students who have been studying at Exeter for at least a year. Your role will involve admin support, organising social events, email communication and matching mentors with new students.

This role is part of the Student Campus Partnership Scheme and offers 120 hours of work in total to be worked from August 2025 to April 2026. This role offers remote working.

Start Date: 11/08/2025

End Date: 30/04/2026

 

Pay: £14.12 per hour including holiday pay.

 

Purpose of the Role

International Peer Mentorship (IPM) is a non-academic mentoring scheme to match new international students with students who have been studying at Exeter for at least a year. This helps the international students settle into Exeter quickly, enables them to meet new people and helps them to have questions, however large or small, answered. International Peer mentors get to share their love of all things Exeter with a new generation of students.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Timeline for work: 

August – September:  Enter data for new student applications to spreadsheet. Match up with mentors. Email mentors with details, organising term 1 socials 

September      working with INTO and Sue O’Hara to encourage new students to request mentors during Welcome Week. Help with final training session.

October – November term 1 socials, promotion
Exit survey from term 1 and write up term 1 report
Encourage mentors to sign up for term 2

December        Organise term 2 socials and promote

January            Promotion of scheme to new students, socials

February          Term 2 socials. Exit survey from term 2 and write up term 2 report

 

Training and Development - What Skills and Experience will this Opportunity Provide?

  • You will gain valuable administration and organisation experience working with a variety of stakeholders including students and colleagues from INTO.

You will be asked to complete the university’s mandatory online training in: 

  • Prevent Duty - Inclusive, Cohesive and Safe Universities

  • Information Governance

Skills

  • Effective communication skills both written and oral

About the University Department

The ISE Team focuses on ensuring international students have a positive experience at our Exeter campuses. This includes pre arrival and post arrival information, International Welcome Programmes, Intercultural Cafes and cultural events on campus. International Peer Mentoring is a key element of our support for new students and helps facilitate their first few weeks to smoothly integrate and transition to UK living by asking questions (big or small) to volunteer mentors who’ve studied in Exeter for at least a year. Collaborating and celebrating cultural festivals on campus allows us to support students’ wellbeing and make Exeter feel more homely. Our team’s mission is to ensure students have a positive, enriching and safe time studying here.

  • Applicants must have current student status or proof of an acceptance on a degree at the University of Exeter.
